IADC is a revolutionary form of psychotherapy that has proven effective in the processing of grief. This new clinical psychology technique was discovered and subsequently refined by the American psychologist Allan Botkin to treat the profound suffering caused by the trauma of losing a loved one. IADC is the acronym for Induced After-Death Communication Therapy and refers to communication with a loved one after their death through an induced state of receptivity: the psychotherapist guides the patient into a state of mental receptivity that allows for the experience of contact and communication with the deceased loved one. Within the span of only two sessions, this therapeutic modality aims to serve as a valuable resource for the treatment of patients suffering from severe and complicated grief, as clinicians commonly define grief marked by a blockage in the mourning process. Through the experience of temporary contact and communication with the loved one, it becomes possible to know that the person who has died still exists and remains close, to ask questions about their condition, to draw upon their guidance and evaluations, and to resolve unresolved issues. The author—physician, psychologist, and psychotherapist—presents the current state of the art regarding scientifically rigorous research involving physicians and psychologists in this innovative therapy. Drawing on a plurality of fields and disciplines, the author integrates empirical data with theoretical reflections on the possibility of life after death, alongside clinical proposals aimed at alleviating the pain of loss, particularly through the evocation of a personal experience of reunion with those we love. Through IADC therapy, the pain of death remains, but the way the loss is experienced changes. The trauma is processed, and suffering is no longer solely destructive and annihilating. The therapeutic experience may foster a process of personal growth in the patient. The collapse of life’s meaning can be transformed into the construction of a deeper sense of meaning, oriented toward a radical re-reading of the bereavement event and accompanied by the attainment of renewed serenity.

“Choice and Destiny” by Claudio Lalla guides the reader through extraordinary phenomena that expand our understanding of reality and of the meaning of the human condition.
The book explores otherworldly phenomena that are often misunderstood, revealing them as objective data of a non-material reality. Through the testimonies of individuals who have undergone boundary experiences, a new perspective emerges on time, ethics, and human evolution. Each chapter offers reflections on profound themes, such as the meaning of existence and the values that guide our choices.
Through detailed descriptions, the book leads the reader along a path of knowledge that enriches and transforms the way the world is perceived.
What are otherworldly experiences?
- visions of the dying in the hours preceding death;
- NDEs (Near-Death Experiences), or pre-death experiences, occurring during a state of clinical death;
- ADCs (After-Death Communications), spontaneous and unexpected experiences of communication with a deceased loved one;
- IADCs (Induced After-Death Communications), experiences of communication after death made possible through an induced state of mental receptivity.
If these experiences are not dismissed a priori as hallucinatory states, they offer a wealth of empirical data from which a broader and deeper perspective on reality emerges—one that encompasses the meaning of the human condition and the ethics with which we may navigate it.
An existential transformation is possible not only when these experiences are lived firsthand, but also when they are explored in depth and become the object of reflection. This book provides the means to do so.

The author

In this essay, the author revives the ancient tradition of writing in the form of dialogue. The two protagonists develop the central theme over the course of four days. On the first day, IADC Therapy and the phenomenology of the otherworldly experiences to which it provides access are examined. The second day addresses the relationship that our society—and those that preceded it—have established with death, analyzing the various social representations of the afterlife that have emerged over time and the way in which IADC Therapy is situated within this historical perspective. On the third day, the dialogue defines the nature of IADC experiences, explores the meaning of earthly life, and confronts the problem of evil. On the fourth day, a compass is outlined to help orient our difficult existential navigation, and practical tools are proposed for recognizing the winds and currents that may cause us to lose our course, thereby jeopardizing the meaning and purpose of our journey. Throughout this reflection, a new and contemporary articulation of Stoicism emerges—the philosophical movement that arose and developed in the ancient world, regained vitality during the Renaissance, and now, in the twenty-first century, appears to resume its evolution and to reassert itself with renewed vigor.
